Microsoft has sold its big 10-lb, 1800-page Resource Kits both for Windows, and for Office, with administrative add-in tools on CD, typically for about $49. Resource Kits provide detailed technical information on how the Office programs work, plus administrative tools for managing and maintaining Windows or Office installations. RKs are great for technical-minded users who are curious about what goes on "under the hood," as well as for programmers who write their own add-in tools.

What Microsoft rarely makes well-known, however, is that the same Resource Kits are also available online for FREE, including the add-in tools. Those considering an upgrade to Office XP may want to have this link handy. (Don't run any of the tools available here on an Office 2000 or 97 installation!) The online OXPRK tracks revisions to documentation and the tools.
