This is the first anniversary edition of the newsletter. I started this weekly endeavor last December with about 40 subscribers and we currently have a grand total of 155 subscribers. Roughly 2/3 of those subscribers are those of you who in the past year have attended the 37211 PC users group and agreed to let us subscribe you. The other third are those who have come to the web page and subscribed or learned about the newsletter by word of mouth. All of you are appreciated, in particular those who have sent links, information, editorials etc.

Opera 5.0 - the fastest browser on earth is now free for downloading in both
Java and non-java versions. Opera offers several benefits over its
competitors for a better Internet experience:
* Fast rendering of pages. Opera is the fastest full-featured browser on the
market today.
* Easy keyboard navigation. Opera's easy keyboard shortcuts save time as
well as benefit people with disabilities.
* Instant toggling of image and documents settings. For even faster
browsing, images can be turned on/off with just the press of a key.
* Multiple windows support. Inside Opera, users may browse in several
windows at once, without straining system resources.
* High quality Zooming. Opera users can zoom in on a page up to a 1000%, be
it text or images.
* Resume download. In the transfer window, downloads can be resumed if
interrupted.
* Small size. Opera is only a 1.95 MB download (Adding Java is a one-time 7
MB download) so updating to the latest version available is always fast and
easy.
* Integrated news, mail, search and Instant Messaging. New in the 5.0
version is a powerful search capability, as well as an Instant Messaging
client. In the search feature, users can easily migrate between the most
popular search engines, and search for terms, domain names, music, Mp3s,
images, video, audio, stock quotes, books or company information.
* The newly integrated Instant Messaging client offers users the possibility
to chat with all ICQ users.
The free version does include an advertising banner that is switched off when accessing web pages so as to not interfere with performance.

Amazon [NASDAQ:AMZN], which started earlier this year when the privacy group
nixed its book distribution deal with the e-tailer, is continuing, with EPIC
now urging government agencies of the need to investigate Amazon's
operations.

http://www.thetechzone.com/reviews/networking/router/netgearrt314/index.shtm
Netgear RT314 is more than just a router. A stand alone router can not let
you share internet access among your computers. You would still need to plug
the router into your hub and then connect that to your computers. However,
the Netgear RT314 gets rid of the need for a hub because it has a four port
10/100 hub built in. With the Netgear RT314, not only can you share net
access with up to four computers, but all four computers can share files
with each other. Instead of plugging the input from your cable modem to your
computer, you plug that input to the Netgear RT314. Then you connect your
computer to the Netgrear routers. It also has a built-in firewall.
