FavOrg scans the Websites in your Favorites list for favicons -- custom icons provided by the Website. The icons are displayed on the Favorites bar, the Favorites menu, and the Address bar. Custom icons make the Favorites list easier to scan, letting you locate a given shortcut faster. Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5; FavOrg brings this functionality to IE4 as well. Favicons are usually lost when you delete your Temporary Internet Files, but FavOrg preserves them. The program also lets you associate any icon you choose with a given shortcut, even if no favicon is provided. Since FavOrg must check the validity of an Internet shortcut before attempting to download the favicon, it automatically flags dead links as it goes through your Favorites list. If you like, it can update redirected links or reset dead links to the site's root.

fileAlert! (v1.8) There are times, especially after installing some trial software, when you'd like to know exactly what files have been added to your hard-disk and in which folders. fileAlert! (v1.8) can be useful at such times. It reports to you, listing full path and name, and categorized, every file created, modified or deleted on the current drive since a certain date and time. No file escapes notice -- whether hidden, system, read-only, temp, normal, or whatever. You can then decide on the uses for such a list. It can help you to remove files which an uninstall fails to remove.

AutoMailer automatically dispatches files as email-attachments. The files you wish to be mailed must be stored in a user-defined, so called "autoprocessing directory". AutoMailer periodically polls this directory for changes and if a new or modified file is found, it will be e-mailed.

From Roger: "Here is a page of links to specialty Windows help sites maintained by independent Microsoft-certified Most Valued Professionals (MVPs.) Most are information-only sites, not consultation services. Most MVPs regularly monitor Usenet newsgroups related to their specialty, and ask that you post any inquiries on the public newsgroups, rather than writing directly to them. The MVPs often have information that isn't documented anywhere (yet) on the official Microsoft Knowledge Base."
