Public Service announcement:
www.pcusers.org was recently listed on Fred Langa's Lanagalist newsletter
(www.langa.com) as a part of his "load the code" promotion. I have been
using the Hitbox (www.hitbox.com) web site traffic monitor for the past
couple of months to record my visitor traffic. The day he published his
newsletter Hitbox recorded that over 900 unique visitors came to the website
(The previous average was 10 per day)! Since then the average has been 25 - 30 unique visitors per day.
We also have about 20 new subscribers to this newsletter as a result of this traffic. For those of you who are newly subscribed we extend a warm welcome.

a discussion group. One person sends a zaplet through the e-mail to several
persons. The Zaplet server stores the message in a web page like format.
The recipients can then view the original e-mail plus any responses made by

Tip #1:
In Windows 9x you can set the the loudness of your internal modems dialup
volume by going to Start|Settings|ControlPanel|System and click the Device
Manager tab. Select your Modem and then click on Properties. Select the
Modem tab, then adjust the slider for speaker volume.
Back in his dial-up days Jack had his modem set to the volume of a chainsaw. Matter of fact he
misses the noise so much with his @home cable modem that he has a .WAV file
that plays the "chainsaw modem" sound every time he starts his computer just
to remind him that he is connected :)
Tip #2:
In Windows98 you can access your System Information Utility by selecting
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Utility. Once there you can
save all of your system information into a text file by selecting File/Export. You can then use Wordpad to edit the file to make notations that you want to put in it . The file size ran about 230k on my system. This can be useful information when you are about to change your hardware or make other changes that might affect your system. A before and after saving of this file could be of assistance in trouble shooting any problems that may arise.
