Public Service Announcements:
Robert Riddle mailto:reriddle@home is requesting that intermedia@home users contact him specifically to see if there is a communal feeling of being less than satisfied with the current service level of Intermedia@home. He will be posting further information on the 37211 PC Users Group Yahoo Club page at: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/pcusersgroup37211
The Woodland-in-Waverly Neighborhood Association is accepting donations of
older computer equipment which they will tune up and pass along to
neighborhood families who might not otherwise be able to buy one, with
preference to single moms with school-aged kids. A local computer shop,
The Computer House, on 8th Ave. South, is going to hold free computer
lessons for neighbors. Contact Pete or Bette Horton at:

Dave's Tip:
Start out the millenium right by using the year-month-day format when naming date-critical files. This puts them in chronological order when you look for them in Windows Explorer and are using the "name" file sorting order. I use this format for the newsletters.
Example: The January 13th, 2000 newsletter is saved as "00-1-13.html". This makes for a shorter url when you go to it at http://pcusers.org/00-1-13.html
At work I save most of my files with the year-month-day-description format. This helps when I archive documents.
Tip #2
Some Registry changes require restarting Windows before the changes take effect. However, there's a way to reinitialize your Registry and refresh your Desktop without fully restarting the OS. Save your work, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Windows task list. Select the Explorer entry and click on End Task. If the Shutdown screen appears, click on Cancel. After a few seconds an error message will appear. Click on End Task, and Windows Explorer will reload with any new Registry settings.

The FMD-ROM disc planned for release has 10 (!) layers, compared to a
maximum of 2 for a CD, and maximum of 4 for a DVD. What’s even scarier about
the disc, which is of the same size as a CD or DVD, is that it can store up
to a massive 140GB

again.
